Every year people from all over India flood Hyderabad to test their patience by waiting in never-ending lines to receive the fish prasadam. It is ayurvedic and is believed to have no side effects.
How’s it made?
An herbal yellow paste is prepared using secret-herbs after which that formulation is stuffed into a fish and shoved down peoples throat.
There is no scientific evidence for the benefits of this medicine, however, people flock in lakhs to consume a live-raw-fish stuffing. The Bhathini brothers are the ones that began this tradition, they claim that the secret recipe was given to their ancestors by a holy man. They carry on this tradition for decades and ensure they adhere to the conditions laid down by the holy man in order to continue reaping its medicinal benefits. First, the formula should be kept a secret and secondly or most importantly it should be given at no cost.
This year I witnessed the mystical dose – the grounds at Nampally exhibition were stashed with policemen and traffic volunteers. It was a smooth arrangement, the officials are worthy of praise because handling people in lakhs is undoubtedly a commendable job. They have arranged the medicine for 5 lakh people with the state fishery department supplying thousands of fish lings.
You should not consume anything before 3 hours and after 1.5 hours of its consumption. The concept behind this healing is that the fish
clears all the congestion as it wags its tail & fins through the throat.
And for the herbivores do not worry they’ve stocked a vegetarian substitute, however, the vegetarian course needs to be taken for a longer period.
It is believed that this medicine is a permanent cure unlike the ample inhalers or sprays, it must be followed as directed to see the desired results.
